A thing of beauty (and a feat of underwater engineering)…
The Art of Conservation. A joy forever.
As VOMO continues its marine conservation mission, we are excited to share a glimpse of the start of the coral gene bank underwater installation with thanks to Counting Coral for their documented progress in the form of these gorgeous photos (See Gallery Below).
The core of this project is the Sculptural Coral Gene Bank, a breathtaking piece of underwater art that doubles as a critical conservation tool. The Counting Coral team has meticulously installed this sculpture, ensuring every detail aligns with aesthetic appeal and environmental impact.
While we can’t show you everything just yet, we’re excited to share a few teaser images of the initial phases of the installation. These snapshots capture the essence of the project—where art meets science in the deep blue just off the shores of VOMO.
The Educational Journey Continues
As this installation becomes part of the seascape, it will support coral life and serve as an educational platform for our guests. Our onsite marine biologist, Laisenia, alongside educators from Counting Coral, continues to maintain and measure critical data to ensure we do everything possible to protect the coral growing on the structure
Looking Forward – An artful and thoughtful addition to VOMO’s Ocean Play menu
Stay tuned for more updates and the full reveal of the Sculptural Coral Gene Bank. As part of VOMO’s Ocean Play, we are excited for you to see the completed project, which promises to be a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to preserving the vibrant life beneath the waves of VOMO.
Every snorkel, dive or kayak trip from our shores brings you closer to witnessing this innovative approach to coral conservation. Visiting the gene bank will definitely become an Ocean Play ‘must do’ when staying on island. Many thanks to the Counting Coral team for this gorgeous, and super-exciting imagery!
