- BeckFSiroReturn visit....ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! In 2018 my family visited Vomo and on our return we were not in love (see previous review)...our travel agent convinced us to give it a second shot and we have just returned from a week stay. Oh how glad we are that we returned! Every single element of our trip was just spectacular. The staff, the rooms, the reef, the food, the kids club...the entire experience was nothing short of INCREDIBLE and every element that previously made us unsure of our return was resolved. On our last trip we felt the resort vibe lacked the relaxed family feeling we craved but the addition of an "adults only" pool this time has completely changed that. It allows choice for those guests who may not want to share their pool and deck space with children. This takes the stress off parents who want to ensure their kids aren't disturbing others wanting some peace and quiet. This time they even had a kids club group entirely devoted to amusing older children and that included games like Marco Polo in the pool! The other thing that seemed to be different this time around was the staff and management. They just seemed genuinely themselves. Their personalities shone through and they seemed relaxed enough to chat and share stories, give advice and have a laugh, all the while, ensuring glasses were filled, tables were cleared and children felt welcomed and cared for. They built relationships that made them super approachable and ensured no questions remained unanswered. Game changer guys!
So how about the kids club? My 9 year old CRIED when we left because he was so in love with the beautiful people who cared for him in kids club which is a huge deal for him as he isn't a particularly emotional child. The resort now have two seperate programs, one for younger children and one that caters for older children. That said, they are also flexible with these programs based on the interests of the children. The children can choose what they want to take part in and sometimes set activities were changed if the kids at the kids club simply wanted to do something different! My youngest (6) was technically too young for the older group his 9 year old brother was in, but that was not an issue. When they realised he wanted to join in with the older children, the resort added an extra adult to the group when they did a snorkelling activity to cater for my youngest and ensure he was safe in the water (does it get more personalised that that???)! Some of the activities they did were: crab racing, snorkelling, tshirt painting, cooking, bonfires, kayaking, playing in the pool, outdoor movie nights, tennis etc etc the list goes on and on and on. Our kids even ditched us on our last night together to have dinner in the kids club and play with their friends! hahah
Just as before the island was paradise. Crystal clear water teeming with fish footsteps from the sand, rainbow reefs accessed from the beach or a daily snorkel trip. This time we swam with reef sharks, saw turtles, collected crabs and even swam amongst a school of fish while giant sea birds dived in after them all around us (my children will never forget that one).
We have already decided when we will return next year and we truly feel like we will be returning home. Thankyou for having us Vomo. We had the most amazing time! More - 30/05/22read moreread less - NzattitudeBest resort in Fiji This is our first time, but it won’t be our last!
If your idea of a dream holiday, is idyllic white sand beaches, great pools, fantastic food, and beautiful well appointed 5-star bures, then Vomo will suit you well. The friendly helpful staff make this resort even better. The new Reefside adult only side adds a new dynamic, but the whole resort is fantastic whether you have come with the family or not.
The cost included meals are the best we have encountered in the Pacific. First rate food that would not be out of place in the better restaurants of AUCKLAND.
Definitely worth splashing out for the helicopter transfer from Nadi airport. - 30/10/19read moreread less - Ken SA Luxury Resort with a Big Smile The most wonderful thing about VOMO are the 'always friendly, happy, delightful staff'. Then comes the magic of the resort. We stayed in 'The Beach House', which is a private 'residence' with three King Sized bedroom suites, a 14 metre pool (and a Private Butler) right on the beach. A truly magnificent, quiet and private setting. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and when we caught fish on a deep sea fishing expedition, the Chef's cooked it all up for us on the same day. Snorkelling, eating, kayaking, fishing and so much more, all made our trip 'Perfect'. It is not cheap ..but you do get what you pay for. Bottom line ..we will return. And that says it all ! - DrCCCCCBest family vacation we've ever had! We just returned from a one week stay at VOMO. We treated our adult children and their young kids (ages 2 and 4) to four beach villas. From the moment our helicopters landed, we felt like we were guests in the home of friends. Friendly welcoming staff and attentive management- they anticipated our needs. The kids club and nanny services were impeccable- the little ones didn't want to leave all their new friends! Food, beverages and service were the best I've had in three trips to Fiji. The activities center, including resort scuba instruction for three , was very professional, with new equipment. As elsewhere in the resort, we felt very safe. Our sons took a surf expedition one day and had a great experience. Other people went fishing and caught several large fish. The staff became friends; we had so much fun with all of them. The rooms were beautifully maintained and very comfortable. Even thought the resort was almost full, we felt we had the place to ourselves, because the grounds are so spacious. Early morning hikes up the hills, moonlit walks on the seemingly limitless beaches with the little ones to look for crabs and little frogs were all so much fun. It was difficult to leave. We will return and encourage other families to go. The ambiance of the place was extremely comfortable, without being stuffy pr pretentious; perfect for a family (no need to dress... - Tony & MelWe will be back! Wow, wow, wow Our first family holiday to Fiji and fair to say that we will be back to VOMO. Every moment of our experience was amazing - from the welcoming song, the meals, the coffee!! and each and every smiling staff member that we saw - incl. back of house or grounds keeping staff. An amazing experience and such a special place! - 01/06/23read moreread less
- CatherineHWhat a dream. A beautiful island with authentic, kind staff. Hard to say goodbye. My partner and I spent 10 days on Vomo Island. From start to finish, our time felt like a happy little dream. We've been to other outer island resorts in Fiji before as we prefer the private island feel to mainland spots. The sheer size and beauty of Vomo completely blew us away. And I've gotta say, Vomo's majestic size and rugged rawness trumps any other Fiji island we've been to. Being big meant we found there was no shortage of activities to keep us active. Loads of fun things to do in and out of the water. We even enjoyed the gym on a rainy afternoon. It has great equipment. The runny machine was better than the one here at my gym. The beaches were incredible. You have a choice of two and they go forever! If it's a bit choppy or windy on one side you can always make your way to the other. Running up Mt Vomo was definitely a highlight. We succeeded a few times. It was steeper than we expected - and a lot harder! The views of the island from the top were worth every ounce of effort though. My partner and I loved the little 'inner' forest that has a golf course and lovely palms with a ring road. Just so beautiful and green and enough area to get in a 3-4km flat run in if you're up for that. Beyond the beautiful landscape, it was the staff at Vomo Island who truly made our stay great. Their genuine warmth and hospitality made us feel like cherished guests from the moment we arrived. Every interaction was filled with genuine smiles and the utmost care. You do hear this about Fijians in general but Vomo staff are some of the loveliest we've ever met. They are authentically kind and caring and do everything to ensure you're enjoying your stay. Adjusting to island life always takes a little time, but soon enough, we found ourselves fully immersed in the relaxed rhythm of what the guest manager Tim calls "Vomo Life". Waking to a long, beautiful breakfast each morning at no particular time knowing we had no particular plans other than to enjoy great food and beautiful surrounds was such a delight. True freedom from our crazy lives back home. Accommodation was lovely. Our beachfront haven was perfect for us. Waking up to the sound of waves just a few steps away was a daily reminder of just how lucky we were to be in such a magical place. I would love to try and book a residence next time with friends. They do look amazing and I was always very envious walking past the grand entrance ways on the way to The Rocks Bar. But out of our price range! And yes - Rocks Bar was a favourite. I could have easily slept in one of the pool cabanas every night. Nothing to do with too much Pinot Gris! The sunsets were so amazing and better than any photo could depict. There were a few highlights for us that stand out. The traditional Meke performance - and we've seen a few - was so full of life and fun and you could see it truly came from the heart. We loved it. The private picnics on the south beach were nothing short of a romantic fairytale. I could definitely do that every day. We also treated ourselves and booked a Vomo Lailai picnic as well on our second last day. That was the ultimate and a must-do. Having been to Fiji a few times, our stay at Vomo Island Fiji was better than we were expecting. We thought we knew what to expect of Fiji but Vomo certainly ramped our expectations up a notch. The combination of the island's activities, the genuine and beautiful staff, and the idyllic beachfront haven made it one of our favourite getaways to date. Thank you to all the VOMO family for your sincere hospitality. We cannot wait to come back. - 01/05/23read moreread less
- BHCJHQuality time away from it all Justin, Jason and the entire Vomo team make an incredible holiday experience to remember. As a family we have been to Fiji many times staying at various resorts but Vomo is easily the pick of the bunch. The beaches, coral and fish are nothing short of spectacular, with a very good dive team for scuba enthusiasts. The daily free guided snorkeling tour is a must. The food at the resort for both Adults and kids is excellent, certainly more creative and interesting than other Fijian resorts with quality choices aplenty. All non alcohol beverages are included which is a massive plus (mocktails and smoothies are so good) and high end coffee was unexpected but so welcomed. Our room was very well appointed, comfy beds and right on the beach, we have 3 boys and we all had plenty of space in the one bure. For kids - Vomo delivers, kids club is split on age which gives them a better experience in terms of activities and engagement. The ocean team have a great focus on knowledge and education and my kids particularly loved the turtle program. Having a marine biologist on hand was pretty cool. For adults - the highlight is the adult pool which is strictly for adults unlike some other Fijian resorts i have been to, the adjoining restaurant and bar is next level and the view is simply breathtaking - the food and sunset drinks is incredible and not to be missed. Vomo are very clever in finding separation between Adults and kids so you can get your own time when you want it. It is honestly pretty hard to fault the place, despite the resort being full it never felt even remotely crowded. The one thing i loved the most about Vomo is the space, gardens and beaches. Scattered throughout the islands are little nooks with hamocks, day beds in which you can really immerse yourself and escape the everyday. - 01/10/23read moreread less
- Sarah R7 nights in paradise Our expectations were high after hearing wonderful things about the island and staff, and we are so happy to say that Vomo lived up to the hype in every way! Kind staff, incredible food and breathtaking snorkelling trips were the stand outs. The resort feels small and intimate - very special atmosphere. Getting there - we flew direct from Brisbane, and were met at the airport by a Vomo driver who took us in a clean vehicle with car seat for baby. It was a smooth ~30 min drive straight to the Marina, and a comfortable 35min boat ride. Island - absolutely stunning. We appreciated the natural beauty and lush gardens. 10/10 Room - comfortable for 2 adults and 2 small kids, with a lovely view to the ocean (only a few steps away). There is a partition that divides the room. Bed was comfortable and we appreciated the AC for cooling down for baby's nap during the day. I do think 2 separate bedrooms would be great for older kids. Food - this was honestly THE HIGHLIGHT. Absolutely surpassed all expectations! A la carte, so much variety, all beautiful & fresh. Some of the best meals we have ever eaten. The serving staff were also wonderful (special shout out to Ella who my girls both adored!). Brekkie on the beach was gorgeous and we loved that the kids could run (& we could stress less about them not being the tidiest eaters). Parent hack: you can order food from the kids menu at any time of the day - an absolute life saver. I did specifically enquire about this before we left as I was trying to decide whether to take snacks for the kids - the reception staff member I spoke with via email didn't seem to know this bit of info. Activities - we couldn't fault the team at Ocean Play they were just amazing. Special shoutout to Hannah and Cas who went above and beyond to make my 4yo daughter feel brave when she wanted to kayak with us. Highly recommend the daily snorkelling trip - colourful coral and abundant fish & sharks. Our expectations for the house reef were surpassed! We went on 2 dives and very happy with the guides and gear. Kids club - lovely kids club and we appreciated the schedule of activities being printed out in advance so we could pick and choose what we thought our kids would like to join. Lots of variety! Staff were very warm and friendly, and we felt confident our daughter was well cared for during her visits. My only real constructive criticism would be that it was never explained to us how to call / use the Nanny service for our 1yo baby. No mention at check-in, or when we first visited Kids Club to introduce ourselves. It would be great if this could be built in to the check -in process (perhaps with the baby-sitter allocated to our family coming to say hi on Day 1, introduce herself etc). We were very confused and told different things by different staff at kids club - thought we had booked the Nanny to watch baby at a certain time, but then when we arrived at the kids club she wasn't there. A clear explanation would be fantastic - your Nanny is allocated to your family for the week, here is how to contact her, you can pre-book times and can split the 4h - e.g. 2h for an activity in the morning, and then 2h at night once bub asleep so parents can eat alone. This was the only complication in an otherwise perfect stay. Thanks again to all the incredible staff - we hope to return one day soon! - 01/09/23read moreread less
- FionabytheseaAmazing island and resort My husband and I spent a week on Vomo for our 20th wedding anniversary. Having done all of the research and read all the reviews, Vomo was by far my #1 choice as they have a house reef and the island was big enough so that there would be many different activities to choose from.
This resort does not disappoint. It is an 10 minute helicopter ride to Vomo but what a beautiful trip it is. The pilot circled the island for us before he landed so that we could see it from the air.
We stayed in a beachfront bure which are very well furnished, luxurious and spacious. You have your own beachfront hammock and also beach loungers both on your deck and on the beach so there are plenty of places to relax and read. From our loungers, we watched bait balls (big schools of fish) each twilight being chased by larger fish and small reef sharks and dive bombed by herons - it was an exhilarating sight we looked forward to.
Ocean Play was great. The staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, accommodating and also had great senses of humour. We loved the activities as much as we loved spending time with them. The snorkelling trips each day by boat were free and gorgeous. The reefs around the island have abundant sea life and corals. Note that the snorkelling from shore on both Eastern and Yasawa Beaches were equally as amazing. We dived - which we loved - and also kayaked to Vomo Lai Lai - the adjoining island, passing a turtle on the way.
The adults pool was a stand-out. Amazing loungers of all shapes and sizes and designs, and so many. The food is served at the pool and in the restaurant, and so are the drinks. It is quiet and even though the resort was full, it felt empty with plenty of quiet places all to yourself.
The walk to the top of Mount Vomo gets your heart racing but is well worth it to see the view, as is the walk around the island.
We loved it - can you tell?
Special thanks to Tim, the manager, who made our trip very special, and to Tila, the waitress, who always knew the best dish to order and looked after us at each meal. The staff are great, friendly, kind and courteous. They really add to the specialness of this resort. - 22/05/22read moreread less - Trip116802Magical VOMO We have just enjoyed a magical week at beautiful VOMO with our family (16 of us).
