SCUBA DIVING AT VOMO – 5 DIVE SPOTS JUST MINUTES AWAY
Introduction
VOMO has an array of great sites, very close to the resort and with some fascinating diving, including swim through caves.
The island is located between the Mamanuca and the Yasawa Island groups. The waters neighboring Vomo Island Fiji have constantly warm waters with wonderful visibility.
Submerge yourself in vast schools of butterflyfish and oriental sweetlips; drift the channels with white tips, Giant Trevallies and Blue fin King fish; descend deep sea ridges with napoleon wrasses and spotted eagle rays; spot turtles or marvel the stunning species that inhabit the massive volcanic reef-formations. Exciting sites with thrilling channels, coral filled overhangs, fascinating caves or interesting tunnels and boulders are waiting for you.
Snorkel with parrot fish, the beautiful blue linckia sea star, small reef sharks and anemone fish just to name a few in front of Mamanucas and Yasawa Beach. Vomo Padi Ocean Play Dive Centre offers tailor-made programmes and personalized experiences with specialty courses taught by a very high experienced instructor.
All of our Diving Centre equipment is top quality Aqualung BCD’s and regulators, with the option of weight belts or integrated weights. Our BCD’s are even male or female fit. We offer good quality masks of different sizes and shapes if our guests do not have their own. We have got fins in all sizes (closed heels).
Our wetsuits have different thicknesses in every size, either long or short according to every guest needs. We offer as well wrist dive computers and for emergency waterproof pocket VHF for our safety. We also offer good quality reachable dive torches.
Our dive boat is fully shaded with a 150hp outboard engine. The boat is very comfortable with a length of 8.6 meters. All of our dives are reached by boat. We will be offering courses, single dives and double tank dives. We always look after the needs of divers individually, making sure they are comfortable. We have a policy if guest has not been diving within the last year they must do a refresher course. We will limit the divers to 6 per boat depending on their qualification. We also try and put the same level of divers together. We do not have set times for diving, we will always arrange the dives depending on tides, winds, swells, qualification of divers and needs.
DIVING COURSES
1) For our little Vomo Guests
Amusing, thrilling and educational, scuba diving is an idyllic activity for families to do together. Get your kids started young with our stimulating scuba programmes. From their first cautious snorkel to brave adventures in the lagoon, kids will experience programmes run by PADI experts.
Bubble Blowers Course
Children between 8 and 12 years old are invited to join us for Bubble blowers lessons in the swimming pool, where our experts will direct them through the steps necessary for traveling the underwater world. Everyone must be fit and able to swim.
2) Refresher Dive/ Review
Before engaging in boat-diving activities, divers who have not been diving within the last year will be required to participate in an orientation dive, conducted in Vomo´s shallow waters or swimming pool. Please make sure you bring your certification card and logbook. Everyone diving is advised to refrain from diving 12 hours after international flights and 24 hours before travelling by air, including by seaplane or Helicopter. Divers must also complete a medical questionnaire prior to their first dive.
3) Padi Discover Scuba Diving
Experience the excitement of diving under supervision of our expert instructor. This course consists of a theory briefing and a confined water session up to 12 meters (40 feet). Participants in this course must be over 10 years old.
4) Padi Open Water Diver Course
PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) courses are offered in English. The Open Water Certification Course consists of four days of training in theory and practice. Upon successful completion, a PADI Open Water certificate will be issued which opens the door to infinite adventures in diving. For guests (10+ years) who would like to complete the theory of certification in advance of their holiday, PADI offers an online eLearning course. Fee applies. Go to padi.com
5) Padi Open Water Referral
This course offers you the opportunity to complete all the theory, theory exam and confined water (pool training modules) of the Open water Course. On successful completion of this program, you will be given complete referral paperwork. This paperwork is the minimum you will need to take with you, to complete the 4 ocean training dives, to become a qualified Open Water Diver. You will need to have completed your E Learning before the first day. Please note Referrals are only valid for six months and must be completed within that period.
6) Padi Advance Diver Course
This course is about exploration, excitement and experience! It is designed so you can go straight into it after the Padi Open Water Diver Course. The advance Open Water Course helps you to increase your confidence and build your skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under supervision. It builds on what you have learned and develops new capabilities by introducing you to new activities and new ways to have fun scuba diving.
7) Rescue Diver Course
This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to prevent, and if necessary, manage dive emergencies. The course broadens a diver’s awareness and improves their skills and confidence. Most certified PADI Rescue Divers look back on their rescue training as one of the most challenging – sometimes demanding – and therefore most rewarding courses they’ve taken. The subject is serious but the training is so much fun!
8) Padi Specialty Courses:
Deep Diver
Take your diving to the next level. Become a Deep Diver and discover what lies below 30 m. This program will familiarize you with the skills, knowledge, organization, techniques, hazards and enjoyment of diving between 18 to 40 meters.
Wreck Diver Course
Learn how to explore mysterious sunken shipwrecks, planes and even automobiles. The fun part is visiting our neighboring wreck, unlocking mysteries and starting to gain the knowledge and experience that allows you to see things that others overlook. Sometimes only the trained eye recognizes that a small whole or open door likely caused the vessel´s demise.
Underwater Photography Course
The Padi Digital Underwater Photographer Course Online includes all the knowledge development requirements for the course. If you want to take digital photos and video underwater this course will teach you how. In the first two sections, the focus is primarily on still photography – whether you take digital still images with a camera or camcorder. Section Three covers some specific tips on how to image quality underwater video with digital cameras.
Night Diver Course
As the sunset sets, you don your dive gear, slip on your scuba mask and bit down on your dive regulator. A deep breath and you step off the boat into the underwater night. Although you have seen this reef many times before, this time you drop into a whole new world since many of the plants and animals you will see are different, and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive torch.
Dive Sites:
Certified Divers
In the crystal clear waters of Vomo certified divers have their choice of beautiful diving possibilities, including White Rock, Salamander Wreck, the big W or the Supermarket. Daily trips include a two-tank morning dive and a one-tank afternoon dive, with sunrise and other specialty dives available on request. Our dive team can also put together a thrilling and personalized programme for you during your stay.
Vomo Dive Sites:
We have 5 dive sites around Vomo; all of them are 5 to 10 minutes by boat distance from our Activities Centre. These are considered shallow dives and the average depth for all of them ranges from 12 to 20 meters. These sites consist of many overhangs and galleys. Some of the marine life that can be spotted are small reef sharks, spotted eagle rays, napoleon wrasses or different types of reef fish such as groupers, snappers or anemone fishes, just to name a few. The coral life is quite healthy.
White Rock – Traveling 20min by boat from Vomo.
Stamped by vast coral formations that top out just under the surface, colorful gaps and coralfilled ledges, White Rock is brilliant for close encounters with all kinds of marine life, from schooling reef fish and turtles to many species of colorful nudibranches and sea slugs.
Salamander wreck – Traveling 20min by boat from Vomo.
With a length of 30 meters the once Blue Lagoon cruise ship, Salamander, lies at approximately 27 meters of depth. This beautiful wreck is covered in soft corals and anemones. Common species are a Moray Eel, Lion Fish, Puffer Fish, and Coral Trout. It is very easy to dive inside under the supervision of your guide.
The Supermarket -The supermarket is 40min by boat from Vomo island.
A world famous shark encounter dive, The Supermarket is home to White Tip, Black Tip and Gray Reef Sharks as well as schools of Barracuda, Groupers and Red Bass Snappers.
