Your invitation to share your love for the ocean

Turtle Talks. A Little Help for a Lot of Happiness. Just in time for Earth Day.

Giving back is deeply special, especially when it happens in paradise. Loloma Hour is our heartfelt way of inviting guests to be part of something bigger during their stay at Vomo Island, Fiji.

Inspired by Tourism Fiji’s national initiative, Loloma Hour allows guests to engage with environmental and cultural activities that create lasting impact—with just a little time and a lot of heart. Whether planting coral, learning traditional crafts, visiting our villages or meeting marine wildlife, each moment offers a way to connect with purpose.

In the spirit of Earth Day (April 22nd), there’s no better moment to spotlight one of our most treasured Loloma Hour initiatives: Turtle Talks.

A Conservation Experience for Kids (and Grown-Ups, Too)

Turtle Talks are designed especially for our younger guests and are seasonally scheduled as part of Vomo’s Kids Club activities programme. These engaging sessions introduce children to the world of critically endangered Hawksbill turtles through stories, facts, and gentle encounters.

Led by our resident marine biologist, Laisenia, children learn about the lives of turtles, the threats they face, and why they are such a vital part of aquatic ecosystems. They even get the magical opportunity to carefully pat a rescued baby turtle’s shell, all while learning the importance of treating wildlife with care and respect. No sunscreen on fingers please! Vinaka!

While Turtle Talks doesn’t require guests to assist with turtle care physically, parents who encourage their children to participate actively help foster a conservation culture. Those small acts—fostering curiosity, empathy, and understanding in the next generation—are very powerful. Of course, Mum and Dad are always welcome to join in, and many do. Often, it’s the parents who walk away the most inspired.

Celebrity Stevie Jacobs Joins the Loloma Hour Talk

Recently, we were lucky to welcome Australian TV personality Stevie Jacobs, who attended a Turtle Talk with our beloved Ocean Play Manager – Tamani (piccies and video below!) As a surprise, three of our rescued turtles were named after him and his daughters: Siti, Issy, and Frenchie. These turtles are now under our care until they’re ready to return to the ocean.

“Hopefully, my little turtle family will live long, happy lives and help get these beautiful creatures off the critically endangered list.” – Stevie Jacobs

His visit helped bring joy and attention to the programme, and showed just how meaningful these gentle experiences can be.

Every Day is Earth Day at Vomo

While Earth Day is celebrated around the world on April 22nd, its message echoes every day on Vomo. Through Loloma Hour, we invite guests to reflect, connect, and give back—whether through cultural learning or environmental awareness. Turtle Talks are a gentle yet powerful way to participate in that journey.

What our turtle conservation efforts look like day to day…

Our turtle conservation programme focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing Hawksbill turtles back into the wild. It’s our long-term commitment to preserving Fiji’s marine life, and we’re proud to share that journey with our guests. Our simple and brief Turtle Talks aren’t about grand gestures. They’re about planting seeds of awareness, compassion, and care—especially in young hearts.

Help save our little turtle friends.

Our Turtle Talks, specially designed for our younger guests, highlight the kind of love and care that can help save the lives of little endangered animals. By simply encouraging your child to attend, you’re already part of our conservation story.

Join a Turtle Talk on Vomo and discover how a little help can go a long way—a little help for a whole lot of happiness in the long run.

Vinaka! Sota tale!
