How Vomo invests in our planet.

Just in time for Earth Day 2022 #investinourplanet – introducing new sustainable practices on the island

Out of all the world’s celebration ‘days’, Earth Day is the one closest to the VOMO family’s heart.

We have only one home and it is our obligation to do our part and take real and meaningful action to reverse the curse of climate change and ocean pollution.

What we’re investing in right now…

Our stunning island is surrounded by pristine ocean waters and ocean life.

After much research, the VOMO family have made it our quest to do our part to right the wrongs of plastic pollution which is now, alarmingly, recognised as a hazard to public health and the human body due to microplastics being found in the food we eat.

Not to mention the devastating effects plastics have on our marine life.

In addition, we have focused specifically on reducing our chemical use (which in itself reduces plastic container procurement) in our kitchens and beyond through the implementation of a brilliant and revolutionary commercial cleaning alternative called E-Water.

We are also reducing and refusing to use non-biodegradable and harmful materials, and we are also changing how we deal with waste and tightening our waste management practices in general.

Energy consumption is also a strong focus.

See below a few ‘ticks’ already on our growing sustainability investment checklist.

Real action equals real change

  • E-water "No Chemical" Machines

E Water machines that turn water into an antibacterial sanitiser for cleaning of surfaces, hands and food contact applications. Plus the production of commercial-grade disinfectant and general cleaning liquid for use on all hard surfaces.

  • Water Bottling Plant

Drastic reduction in the use of throwaway plastic water bottles. VOMO has its very own water bottling plant which drastically reduces the need for commercially bought bottled water in plastic containers.

  • Eradicating single use plastics

E.g. No plastic straws and elimination of single bottle amenities in the rooms,

  • Grey water collection and recycling

To be used on resort grounds like the golf course greens

  • Growing & sourcing organic produce

Growing as many organic herbs, fruits and vegetables as possible on the island to reduce pesticide use and transportation requirements. PLUS using more local food producers rather than reliance on international ones.

  • Reducing energy consumption

Electric buggies replacing petrol ones for transportation of goods around the island, maintaining and optimising our commercial fridge seals, reducing gas consumption and changing lighting to LED lighting as much as possible

  • Clean Up Days

Even with careful conservation and eco-friendly practices on island we are still mindful of the need to keep our beaches clean and waterways clear of stray debris with regular ‘clean up’ days.
